  1. I note that Marabou is up for sale again, (May 2018) and I am gathering as much information as I can, so that I can evaluate my ability to care and restore her to live aboard comfort. I love well crafted timber boats, but worry that 45 years may have taken a toll on condition and seaworthiness.

Any advice or information on Marabou would be really appreciated.

    • I think i may have one of the original tenders for this boat. It is a 4m Kevlar over balsa wood construction named Xenophon and also has the Marabou name on it. It is a beautifully built boat and in very good condition.

  2. My dad Peter worked for Peter for many years. He was one of (the?) cabinetmakers and built much of the interior work of Marabou. I remember going on board many times during her construction. I even remember the painting of the marabou in the main salon and the carved elephant details on the bar. At the time of launch I’m sure she was the largest (66′) and most expensive private boat built in Australia. She was built for Keith Story (Storey?) who was the commodore of the Cruising Yacht Squadron at Rushcutters. Dad was a prolific picture taker and I’m sure I’ll have his slides of Marabou and a number of other boats.

  3. I have an Edwin Monk designed and Peter Bracken built boat named Peterlyn.
She is 55 foot coastal cruiser built for Morven Dan in 1965.
Peterlyn was the offshore marker layer for the Sydney Hobart Yacht race for many years in the 1970’s with CYCA plaques in the wheelhouse. She has very similar lines to the Marabou and is a great sea boat. We purchased the vessel in January 2019 in Mandurah WA and slowly cruised her all the way to Bali in October 2019. Covid stopped us there until now and we have finally been able to get back onboard. Unfortunately our situation has now changed and looks like we will have to sell our beautiful Peterlyn. we will be leaving Bali in october and heading for Darwin. If anyone is interested please let me know. These vessels are getting rare and it would be good to see her go to a new loving owner.
    Regards
    Duncan
