Tantivy is a magnificent example of an extensive restoration of a Bracken original, demonstrating how a well-constructed but over 40 year old timber launch can hold its own with the current generation of ‘plastics’. Originally named ‘George Bass’, Tantivy was built in 1969 for Stan Edwards using King Billy Pine supplied by Stan himself. Peter says that this is the only boat he built using this particular timber.
Triple diagonal type construction with glass sheaving.

New 4 LH STP Yanmar engines giving 18kn 550 hrs
New shafts and propellers with PSS carbon shaft seals

All of the work has been done/overseen by the previous owner, Scott Major.
Tantivy’s restoration is nothing but beautiful. My wife and I owned her from 1998 to 2000 we bought her from Botony Bay and sailed her to Pittwater and she was kept in a berth at Royal Motor. We have various photos from the time we owned her and before which we would be happy to email to you. Where is she kept now, ,location only not that we will be able to see her as we retired to Queensland.
I think my dad Rowan Waddy also owned this boat
Thanks for your comment Jill.
I admin Peter’s site and he is pleased to see that the boats he built are still giving people pleasure.
If you think you might have some old photos of Tantivy tucked away I would love to publish them on the site.
Hi all we now own George Bass/Tantivy we purchased her last year 2021 she has had another name change and is now called Bungaree. I’m not sure when this name changed happened . The boat is going strong and is as beautiful as ever.
Bungaree the man was a First Nations elder from Broken Bay/Pittwater and the boat is now moored out the front of our house at Scotland Island Pittwater so the name fits perfectly. Bungaree the man was know as the chief of Pittwater and King of Port Jackson. He sailed with Mathew Flinders historic voyage circumnavigating, mapping and Mathew named our island Australia on that voyage. Bungaree also sailed with George Bass.
The boat has had a few changes since the pics above. The upstairs helm was removed and made into a large day bed, the kitchen has been replaced and a re-trim of the saloon. If you see Bungaree on the water give us a wave.
Hi Shane,
Sorry. I missed this post last year!
